In May 2006, more than 300,000 Colombians, including indigenous communities and social justice organizations came together at the National Traveling Summit to demand a national referendum on the Free Trade Agreement with the United States and the fulfillment of the agreements signed with the national government 20 years ago to return land to indigenous groups in Cauca, Colombia. This documentary, produced by the Association of Indigenous Councils of the North of Cauca, reveals the brutal response of the Colombian state against the indigenous reservation of La MarĂa, the official media campaign to dismiss the indigenous summit as part of a terrorist plan and how the indigenous communities organize themselves to demand their ancestral rights and fight against unfair state policies.

A stark look at the reality of what it is to be truly downcast and to be able to take a stand in protest—to seek basic human dignity. A must see for American classes in government, sociology, history and political science.
