Our Land
Mario Marret's film NOSSA TERRA (1966) evolved from a close connection with the PAIGC (African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde) during the Guinea-Bissau war of independence.

In 2012, prints of NOSSA TERRA were found in the national film archive in Guinea-Bissau (INCA – Instituto Nacional de Cinema e Audiovisual), but they were in an irreversible state of decay. Third World Newsreel is pleased to re-release the English version of the film, newly digitized by the Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research, University of Wisconsin-Madison. This film is now available for public screenings and educational use.

TWN acknowledges that in New York we are on the unceded territory of the Lenni Lenape, Canarsie, Shinecock, and Munsee peoples and challenges the harm that continues to be inflicted upon Indigenous and People of Color communities here and abroad, which is why we all need to be part of the struggle for rights, equality and justice.

TWN is supported in part by Color Congress, the National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, New York City Department of Cultural Affarirs, MOSAIC, New York Community Trust, Peace Development Fund, Humanities NY and individual donors.
