Little Brother: A Do Right Man (Chapter 3)

LITTLE BROTHER is a series of short documentary films dedicated to giving Black boys a unique voice. Beginning in 2010, filmmakers Nicole Franklin and Jasmin Tiggett started taking an annual look at Black boys as young as nine years old for a one-on-one conversation demystifying what society tends to rob them of: LOVE.

The third chapter of the series, LITTLE BROTHER: A DO RIGHT MAN, has the camera focused on the young men of St. Petersburg, FL during the year 2012. In the aftermath of the Trayvon Martin shooting and the midst of a rocky political climate, we hear from young men in the state of Florida about the relationships that are helping prepare them or adult life, and the challenges ahead.

Supported in part by a grant from the Open Society Foundations/Campaign for Black Male Achievement. The film production team is available for in-person appearances accompanying screenings.
"First Impressions and the African American Male: A Guide to Experiencing the Truth about Little Brother" is a curriculum guide preparing groups and classes for viewing LITTLE BROTHER chapters. The text also contains a list of Discussion Questions from educator Nancy Montgomery and an Activity Guide compiled by the Little Brother team. Reviews
“It is a rarity to see representations of black boys as they really are: beautiful, open, curious, intelligent, funny, and vulnerable. Filmmakers Nicole Franklin and Jasmin Tiggett's LITTLE BROTHER, a caring documentary about the hopes, dreams, and experiences of black boys is as important as it is necessary. This endearing documentary series presents black boys as dignified and fully human, which makes LITTLE BROTHER a filmic exception, rather than the rule.” - Byron Hurt, - Byron Hurt, Film Director, HIP HOP: BEYOND BEATS AND RHYMES, BARACK & CURTIS
"LITTLE BROTHER is a women's issue. Whether these boys are our sons, our lovers, or our fathers...the men they become impacts a woman's life in so many ways." - , - Maria Escobedo, Film and TV Writer, GO, DIEGO, GO
